So the tussle b/w Elastic vs AWS isnt just a license issue.
It's Egress pricing.
AWS charges a crazy amount of money for traffic going outside AWS. Even if you peer/privatelink,etc.
So even if Elastic has a 2x better service at 0.5x cost, nobody will use it

@M***iSilver @Twitter @getongab When @parler_app was kicked off #AWS, the defense of the establishment viz censorship was "It's a private company, find another place!". Now, that might be true, but the issue is money. If no one can easily PAY another place, the non neutrality of payment systems is the censor.

This ruling means AWS can be sued for not shutting down Twitter. Parler wasn't seeing an influx until afterward. Most of any planning or threats b4 that day was on Twitter/other, not Parler. This was wirtten from the conclusion the judge wanted, not to it.

And child porn on Twitter and fb is okay? All of it should be taken down. Taking a competitive platform down is different and especially when they collude for ad dollars like google and fb. Apple, google, AWS and Azure own the mobile app and compute space. It needs oversight.

@jcollie @ifmcf @thevivafrei Parler says that it was doing the best that it could, even following essentially the same moderation tools that are doing by Twitter. The problem came when they had a LARGE influx of people and the tool broke. They were fixing this problem when AWS axed them

@jcollie @ifmcf @thevivafrei That's the point. Moderating social media platforms is like playing whack-a-mole. There's always more to take down. Yet AWS has no problem doing business with Twitter, with the same problems, but DOES have a problem with Parler.

@RepMattGaetz @PaxHart Big Tech needs to be broken up. Not only do they have this platform, but they work to get government contracts as well - I.e. Amazon Web Services. Those government contracts are funded by taxpayers. It’s misdirection to only think of Twitter or FB as social media - think bigger.

@checkmatestate I agree with the sentiment, but actually the opposite happened here. Parler is down because AWS wouldn't host them, conservative voices are out because Twitter doesn't want a literal civil war on their platform. The government has basically done nothing to regulate anyone.

@LozzaFox The bigger issue for me was AWS deplatforming Parler.
They have UK data centres, and “Cloud first” is mandated by UK government. This is a monopoly of 2 providers.
If the UK is going to approve use of them, it must insist on having regulation of at LEAST Data centres /1/2
